The history of Sacred Heart Parish is meshed with the immigrants who poured through the gates of Ellis Island and the ports of Camden and Philadelphia during the late 1800's. These pioneer parishioners found their way to a poor waterfront community known as Southwark and demonstrated their values in faith and education by actually digging the cellar for Sacred Heart Church and this has remained the cornerstone for over a century to the families in the area for spiritual growth.

Sacred Heart Church attends to many of the needs of the families who keep the spirit of Catholic tradition alive and strong and filled with dedication.

Our parish boundaries extend from the Delaware River to 7th Street and from the south side of Federal Street to the north side of McKean Street. All those living within these boundaries are welcome to register as parishioners.

Currently the Church is undergoing much needed renovations and we are grateful for the support from Local 98, the Sacred Heart of Jesus Men’s Club, families, and business in our parish for their support. If you would like to assist in these efforts, please contact Brian Donnelly at 215-389-2550.

Everyone is welcome to visit the church to see its progress.

May God Bless you,
